Twelve central Indiana general contractors bid Tuesday for the main branch renovation and outreach building at the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library's main branch Tuesday. KRM Architecture, the library board and its attorney listened to the bids.

Mike Montgomery of KRM Architecture read the bids at the meeting. The low bid on the main renovation was made by CPM Construction Co. for $3,520,000. The high bid was made by Patterson Horth General Contractors for $3,917,000. The low bid on the outreach building was made by C.F. Jones Group for $800,000. The high bid was made by Leo Brown Construction Co. for $990,000. The lowest combination bid for the projects was made by CPM Construction Co. for $4,310,000. The highest combination bid was made by Turner Construction Co. for $4,609,000.

The companies who presented were Terstep Co., Inc. of Fishers; Leo Brown Construction Co., Inc. of Logansport; W.R. Dunkin & Son, Inc. of Anderson; Fredericks, Inc. of Pendleton; Gibson-Lewis of Indianapolis, LLC.; Brandt Construction, Inc. of Indianapolis; Quantum General Contractors, Inc., of Indianapolis; Bowman Construction Co., Inc. of Marion; C.F. Jones Group of Lebanon; CPM Construction Planning and Management, Inc. of Indianapolis; Turner Construction Co. of Indianapolis; and Patterson Horth General Contractors of Indianapolis.

The local firm of C&Z Construction, Inc. did not place a bid for either of the projects. Junior Zimmerman of C&Z Construction said this was because the firm couldn't get bonding and could not afford to do it.

Library President Charles Joray is hopeful that the main library can maintain its quality service through the construction process.

"We know it will be stressful to the public when we move to another (temporary) facility," Joray said. "We will make the most of this move. We look forward to what it will look like in a year from now when it is done."

KRM Architecture will make its recommendations at the next library board meeting on Aug. 18, he said.
