For those who want to learn a computer program and are not sure if they could afford to take classes, there is a training program available in Kokomo that is focused toward those who are unemployed or underemployed.

ExecuTrain of Northern Indiana is now offering certification training programs at the UAW/Chrysler Kokomo Training Center at 1315 Hoffer St.

Many who apply for the program are eligible for funding for training through various state programs designed for unemployed workers. ExecuTrain also provides a $500 on-the-job training scholarship to employers who hire graduates of the program to offset some of the initial cost of the employer, said Tim Putt, vice president of Executive Technologies.

ExecuTrain will offer six- to 18-week courses in computer support, computer aided design, office administration, warehousing and logistics, management and supervision, Microsoft professional certification, Microsoft Office applications, entrepreneurship, sales, and customer service.

ExecuTrain will have local instructors to give students an alternative to driving to Indianapolis, he said.

"We are finding that many unemployed workers have family obligations or financial responsibilities that prevent them from pursuing a traditional degreed training program," he said. "Our training is for those customers."

The certification-based training programs are accelerated, and students who successfully complete them will earn nationally and internationally recognized certifications that are valuable credentials to add to their resumes, Putt said.

The classes are Tuesday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and they will be offering courses directly to businesses as well. The cost of training varies by course.

ExecuTrain has trained more than 12 million people in 25 countries since 1984, he said.
