BREAKING NEWS: City donates food from Early Learning Center to Kokomo Rescue Mission

The city of Kokomo made a large donation of food by way of a pick-up truck to the Kokomo Rescue Mission on Wednesday.

The food was from the remnants of the city's Early Learning Center and the city did not want to let the food go to waste.

"The Early Learning Center will not be using these pantry items anymore so the city wanted to donate these food items to the rescue mission to help the many people in need," said Mayor Greg Goodnight.

The mission received everything from hamburger to shredded cheese to yogurt, Executive Director Van Taylor said.

"We have more food security now than what we did," Taylor said. "It relieves that pressure and we are very grateful for it."

The number of people who are eating at the rescue mission has increased 22 percent on average each month and the mission is on track for 140,000 meals this year, said Taylor.
