Greentown concert series begins season Thursday

GREENTOWN - The Kokomo Park Band may be ending its season on Wednesday, but there is still music in the air in Howard County.

"Music at the Fountain" concert series begins its fifth season on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the fountain, north of the stoplight, on Meridian Street. It is sponsored by the Greentown Main Street Association. All a person needs is his or hear lawn chair and then prepare to be entertained.

This year's first performer will be Paul Stout, a Kokomo native, who regularly sings in Nashville, Tenn. He debuted in August 2007 with the CD titled "I Love My Life" and in 2008 his first country music single titled "Storms" topped out at number 21 on the Powersource Country Music Chart.

"We hope that everyone can come," said committee chairperson Jolene Rule. "We have a lot of excellent performers. The event gets more popular every year and it's a laid back atmosphere with a lot of variety."

Paul Stout's music has also been featured in Chrysler and United Way commercials, Rule said.

Every event also features a cake walk during the break at the middle of the performance, she said.

Coming for the Aug. 6 concert will be Harmony Magic, who are barbershop women without a chorus, and Brass Works, a group of six musicians who play big band, Dixieland, show tunes and hymns, she said.

On the evening of Sept. 10, there will be a music talent contest, she said. They will accept the first 12 individuals or small groups who sign up for the contest. Singers can bring CDs or small carry-on instruments for back-up, she said. The cost is $5 to register and registration is available at the Greentown Library and in the Greentown Grapevine.

The eight-week series takes place every Thursday until Sept. 17, she said. If it rains, the event would be held at the Lions Pavilion at the fairgrounds.
