Kokomo Beach sees increase in visitors since last year

So far this year, more people have slid down a water slide and relaxed down the lazy river than last year at Kokomo Beach Family Aquatic Center at 804 W. Park Ave.

Torrey Roe, recreation manager of the Kokomo Parks & Recreation Department, said that the pool has seen an increase by more than 2,000 visitors and that revenue has increased by almost $1,500 as of July 7.

The numbers have increased, yet, they are back to about average of what they used to be, he said.

"Being in a recession that we are in, I thought it would resemble last year's numbers," he said.

He attributed last year's down attendance to competition with pools in Marion, Carmel and Noblesville.

"These other communities have taken away from our base," he said.

Even with the other pools in the area, Kokomo Beach is rebounding as more people stay closer to home.

Kokomo Beach offers swim lessons, lazy river water walking classes, after hours rentals and birthday parties. The pool is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 7 p.m.
